Paleta de Limón in English or any other Language

paletaI used to translate every post from Paleta de Limón to this blog.

Silly me, I didn’t knew once again that there are tools on the web that can make everything easier.

I found out that Google Translate can make all the job for me. You just have to paste the website’s URL (http://paletadelimon.wordpress.com/) into the Google Translate page.

Yes, it’s as easy as it sounds.

I want to travel to space

Unfortunately if you want to travel to space today, it will cost you $200,000 USD per person. I guess I’ll have to wait for the price to go down, I just hope it doesn’t take very long.

Meanwhile I can almost see what it’s like to be there with the help of these sites with downloadable applications:

GOOGLE EARTH: http://earth.google.com/Google Earth

With Google Earth you can fly to any part of the Earth to see satelite images, maps, buildings in 3D… from galaxies in space to explore Mars in 3D.

CELESTIA: http://www.shatters.net/celestia/Celestia

It is a free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. You can travel throughout the Solar System, to more than 100,000 stars or even beyond our galaxy.

Did you know that astronauts that have been living in space…

  1. suffer from space sickness, nausea, headaches and difficulty to locate their own limbs? This is space travelcaused by the confusing information that gets to their inner ear where balance is controlled.
  2. snore less when they sleep in outer space than when they slept on Earth?
  3. they season their food with liquid salt and pepper? To prevent the grains reach their nose and obstruct their vents.
  4. when they get back to Earth they report difficulty to move their arms and legs? This is another reason why they call it the “second birth”.
  5. they claim they can’t get used to falling objects when they drop them? Ha.
  6. 18 people have died in space missions, but never in space, it has always been leaving the Earth or returning back.

Raise your hand if you want to eat powder food every day and sleep “standing up” inside a sleeping bag… anyone?, another reason why we should thank the astronauts.

These astronauts weren’t taught that they shouldn’t play with their food, I think that adults become kids again in space Ü.

GOOGLE EARTH: http://earth.google.com/Google Earth

CELESTIA: http://www.shatters.net/celestia/

The Googleplex: Every Employee’s Dream

google

Yes, I know, the Googleplex has been functioning for several years by now, but come on let’s be honest, who wouldn’t like to have a gym in their office, two swimming pools, free laundry, beach volleyball courts, ping-pong tables, child nursery, massage salon, pool tables, restaurants and cafeterias with free meals and above all be able to take your dog to work?

It seems like a dream, but no, it is the mere reality for the Google employees in Mountain View, California.

And here, the Googleplex (click the image for a bigger view):

Googleplex

The solar panels in the roofs provide 30% of the Googleplex’s electric needs.

Some wonders of Google’s organizational culture:googleplex 3

  • Every person has their own work rhythm depending on their personal interests and life style. For this reason, there are no specific work timetables in the company, anyone is free to arrive and leave at any given time.
  • Everybody is equal in Google, there are no hierarchical, religious or social differences.
  • Training and learning are permanent. To work in this company, you have to stay up to date and willing to learn something new everyday.
  • If you don’t want to wear a tie it doesn’t make you less professional. I mean, have you ever seen Sergey Brin or Larry Page wearing a tie? I haven’t.googleplex 1

It’s easy to see that Google is trying to make their employees want to stay as much time as possible in their facilities. They have created a little city from which nobody has to get out. They provide 3 payed gourmet meals per day per employee, they do their laundry, take care of their children, offer exercise facilities, I guess bedrooms are the only thing that is measing, or are there?

And now, the million dollar question: can google keep giving their employees these privileges? keep giving free lunches? free recreational activities?Googleplex 2

It seems easy now that the company is doing great, it keeps on growing year after year, their revenues keep raising. I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but what will happen when the market gets more competitive or stops growing at the pace that is growing now? Will their privileges be the same?
